Georgetown has been steadily expanding, and with that comes new restaurants. The newest addition is Buffalo Wild Wings, a popular family-friendly sports bar that has more than 900 locations across the United States. There is at least one Buffalo Wild Wings (a.k.a. BDubs) in Canada and soon they will be expanding into a few other countries, including the Philippines and Mexico.

Their motto is “Beer, Wings, and Sports,” and they certainly hold true to that. While Applebee’s has a popular half-price happy hour, it leaves an avid sports fan wanting more.

BDubs has TVs absolutely everywhere with every sports channel you can imagine and there are employees called GEC’s (Guest Experience Captains) whose sole job is to make sure you get to watch whatever game you want, whenever you want. They can change channels on the TVs, bring you beer samples and get you signed up for the “Blazin’ Challenge” if you so choose. In order to win this challenge, you must eat 12 traditional wings loaded with the hottest sauce BDubs has to offer (Blazin’ sauce) in under six minutes. It is certainly not for the faint of heart, but if you think you can handle it they would be glad to have you try.

BDubs has 30 beers on tap, including domestic, import and craft beers ranging from Budweiser to Guinness to Woodchuck. They are also making an effort to feature some local breweries, selling West Sixth Brewery’s IPA and Amber Ale and Country Boy’s seasonal Bumpkin (pumpkin ale). Aside from beer, they feature a wide variety of signature drinks. There is definitely something for everyone.

As a part of their Grand Opening which occurred on Monday, they gave out free wings for a year to the first 100 folks in line. People lined up and camped out and some GC students made the cut.

Chelsea Vinson, a senior at Georgetown, is one of the lucky 100. She and her whole family waited patiently for their rewards. She said, “We got no sleep, free wings for the night and lots of Red Bull. It was a lot of fun and completely worth free wings for a year. After all, I am on a college student budget!”

As far as student discounts go, it is still uncertian if BDubs will be accepting G Cards, but they are certainly looking into it. Their hours as of now will be Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Alcohol service must stop at midnight every night but Sunday night. On Sundays, alcohol service stops at 6 p.m. However, there will be no shortage of wings or sports.
