Lady Tigers finish 2nd in MSC

Staff Writer

basketballThe ladies of the Georgetown College basketball team had a huge victory against Lindsey Wilson College last Saturday. In fact, the win clinches a second place finish in the Mid-South Conference for the Tigers. GC (20-8, 14-5 Mid-South Conference) was able to destroy Lindsey Wilson, 92-74.

GC is rolling now, as this is their fourth straight win. It certainly seems as if this year is favoring this squad. In fact, in the year 2013, the Tigers are an impressive 12-3. Georgetown had solid shooting all around and finished the game with a 50.8 percent average, and 12-of-19 from three point land. The Tigers have had trouble on the road against Lindsey Wilson; the last time they even won there was back in the 2007-2008 season.

Once again, many different players are contributing to the success of the team. Kourtney Tyra, who always seems to have great shooting, tied her game high of 25 points, with an incredible five three pointers. But, possibly more impressive for her career, she had six assist and that ties her for most assists in Georgetown history.

Andrea Howard, a regular contributor for GC’s winning, recorded 19 points, two out of three from beyond the arch. Devanny King had another great performance, with 13 points and six rebounds. Lizza Jones grabbed five rebounds to go toward her career total of 503, and 11 points on the night. Devon Golden had the most rebounds out of GC players with seven.

On the other side, Lindsey Wilson couldn’t seem to get their whole team into the game, causing two of their players to try to pick up the slack. One of their seniors, Ashley Rainey, recorded 25 points and an impressive 14 rebounds, while the other big factor was Jasmine Brimm, who recorded 22 points.

The Tigers look to end the regular season strong against St. Catharine on Monday.
