So close, but not close enough is what the Tigers felt as Garel Craig’s shot rimmed out at the end of overtime, and the Tigers fell to the No.24 ranked Shawnee State University Bears on Jan. 24. The game was close throughout and went beyond regulation, but Shawnee State came out on top to even up the season series at 1-1.
Shawnee State was up by seven points at halftime, but Georgetown rallied back and tied the game up at the end of regulation as Allan Thomas’s three-pointer missed with no time left on the clock. With 3.8 seconds to go in Overtime, the head coaches entered a mental coaching battle as the Tigers needed to get up the length of the court and get a good shot in order to overcome their 85-87 deficit. After a couple timeouts and readjustments by both teams, Garel Craig was able to get a shot off in the middle of the lane, which fell just a little short of sending the game into a second overtime.
Allan Thomas led the Tigers in points with 18, with Monty Wilson and Deondre McWhorter both chipping in 16 of their own. Garel Craig had 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists, while Vic Moses scored 11 points with eight rebounds.
The Tigers have nine games left, six of which are at home. Make sure to come out and support the Tigers!
