The tiger’s men’s basketball team played three games last week against St. Catharine’s College, Martin Methodist University and Life University. The last two games were part of the 19th annual Central Bank Jim Reid classic tournament for the Tigers, which they won handily on Saturday.
On the Nov 20, the Tigers played and beat St. Catherine’s 90-80. Vic Moses lead the Tigers with 24 points, while Deondre McWhorter pitched in 19 of his own. On Friday, Nov 23, the Tigers played No. 22 ranked Martin Methodist in their most hard-fought game of the week. Vic Moses led the team to victory with 15 points. McWhorter scored 14, Mychal Parker 13, and Garel Craig 11. The final score was 68-63.
The tournament came to a close on Saturday, Nov 26 as the Tigers faced Life University in the finale of the tournament. Life started off with a lot more energy than Georgetown in the first 15 minutes of the first half, taking a quick 17-10 lead. Georgetown roared back with solid play and sound defense, and went into the locker room with a 37-33 lead. In the second half, the Tigers came out roaring as Allan Thomas hit two early threes to put the Tigers well ahead for good. Thomas ended the game with 16 points. Mychal Parker had 15 points and 11 rebounds while Monty Wilson had a game high 24 points, hitting 15-17 free throws while pulling down 8 boards. Vic Moses was named tournament MVP for his 12 points and 16 rebounds, his second double-double of the tournament.
The Tigers record is now 7-1, 1-1 conference. They will be playing Lindsay Wilson College on Thursday Nov 29 at 8 p.m. following the women’s game.
