Women of the Georgetown College Volleyball team have been tearing up their opponents. Our Tigers have continued their winning streak which now stands at 15 matches. The No. 16 ranked GC Women defeated University of Rio Grande and University of Pikeville to cap a month of no losses.
The record for Georgetown stands at 16-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Girls of the Tiger volleyball team crushed Rio Grande 25-10, 25-21 and 25-21 and won, again in straight sets to Pikeville with the scores of 25-6, 25-9 and 25-10. Within this winning streak GC coach Griffin is only six matches away from having his longest winning streak.
An instrumental part of Georgetown’s success on the volleyball court can be attributed to the young talent of freshmen Lindsey Martindale and Kristen Schellhaas. Martindale has had a remarkable season; she ranks fifth overall in the league and has a fourth best assist average with 6.3 per set. Schellhaas has been a strong force as one of the team’s elite servers. The team mixes its youth with the experience of upperclassmen.
Coach Nick Griffin admits this was a tough part of the season but was happy with playing a lot of games on their home court.”This was an important stretch in the season,” the GC coach said. “In a week we will have played the top four teams in our conference. It was great to be able to play the majority of those at home and now we need to go to Campbellsville and take care of business there as well.”
