Caraline Maher had a huge week last week. She was able to record 57 kills, 19 digs and 18 blocks against some tough competition. This honor was her first Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honor of the season, and her second in her career.
Her coach, Nick Griffin, was impressed with how Maher played, especially against a nationally ranked opponent. “Caraline had a great weekend in the Boneyard Brawl,” the GC coach said, “Against fifth ranked Lee University, she had 15 kills and six digs.”
Last week, Caraline averaged 3.17 kills per set with an attacking percentage of .325. In a week full of nationally ranked opponents, Maher lead GC to win all but one of their games. Not only does she rank highly in the MSC (third-best hitting percentage .362), but she’s ranked as having the 18th-best hitting percentage in the NAIA.
Maher also managed to grab all-tournament honors, along with teammate Allyson Wilbourn. Four of the nine teams at the tournament had only one loss and three wins (Indiana, Wesleyan, Indiana University East, Indiana Institute of Technology and Georgetown College), which made it hard to decide the all-tournament team.
Along with Caraline Maherand and Allyson Wilbourn of Georgetown, the other all-tournament honors went to Yui Iwase and Kristine Egebrecht, Wesleyan; Breexy Street and Lauren Crump, East; Kelsey Cox and Christien Foest, Tech; Nicole Wurstle, Lee University; Taylor Hayne, Lindsey Wilson; Courtney Herschberger, Taylor University; and Fermanda Ferreira, Freed-Hardeman University.
