Georgetown Women’s soccer team had its fourth straight win on Homecoming Saturday. The girls had another shutout against the University of Rio Grande, beating them 1-0 at home. The win brought another victory to the home team on a weekend full of Tiger dominance.
Our Tigers had many opportunities to put the ball in the net. The lady Tigers outshot Rio Grande RedStorm 12-3 in just the final 45 minutes. Bea Cameron, sophomore, was able to score the only goal of the game. The goal was Cameron’s third of the season. Along with Cameron, Alessandra Jansen, Alex Harbowy and Sarah Hencke, all had chances to score.
Even though they were only able to score one goal Coach Leah Crews Castleman was pleased with her girl’s play. “It would have been nice to find the back of the net more,” the GC coach said, ”but keeping possession and pushing the pressure was what I wanted to see” (georgetowncollegeathletics.com).
GC Senior Caitlin Williams earned Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week. This was after the Tigers were able to shutout two more opponents. Williams is part of a defensive unit that has only allowed two goals all season. “We were a bit concerned about the defense coming into the season, Williams said. “We are really coming together back there, and we set a goal of keeping teams scoreless” (georgetowncollegeathletics.com).
This reward was her second player of the week honors, but her first defensive. The Georgetown College Women’s soccer team is 3-0 in the conference and is tied with Cumberland University.
