The Georgetown College men’s soccer team’s hard work has paid off with a well deserved win. Georgetown was able to come up with a win against the University of Pikeville on the road last Wednesday night. Our Tigers mauled the winless Bears. The final score had GC on top 4-2.
Pikeville was able to put the ball in the net first, but Georgetown responded with two quick goals. Taylor Shaver tied up the game, quickly followed by a Benjamin Aspillaga goal. Shaver put another point on the board in the second half. The Tigers kept the lead the rest of the way and easily put down the Bears. In the second half, freshman Hunter Conner scored his second goal of the season. His goal proved to be the winning goal for Georgetown College.
The win over Pikeville gives Georgetown a 1-6 record and 1-1 in Mid-South Conference play. Coach Derek Willis has liked what he’s seen from his team and was confident in their ability to win. “It’s just a matter of getting that first one,” the GC coach said. “We have been playing really well lately, and I’ve been pleased with the tactical stuff” (georgetowncollegeathletics.com).
Our Tigers also played their homecoming game against the No. 2 ranked University of Rio Grande. They had a tough time against the 7-1 crew and shut out the Tigers 6-0 on iHigh Field. The men’s soccer team heads south and is scheduled to play at Campbellsville University on Wednesday.
