• As of April 24, the President has announced GC will be sending students a check to help them cover additional expenses that they have taken on due to the shutdown. These funds are a combination of CARES act funds from the stimulus act passed by the government, and a partial refund from Sodexo and the college.
  • As of Friday, March 20: Georgetown College classes will be online for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. All college events are canceled through the end of April, including admission and advancement in-person events, such as Preview Days, PAWS, and the Alumni Tour.   • How do I access my online courses?
    • Every course has a Canvas course connected to it. You can access Canvas by signing into the portal at, then clicking "Canvas" under Quick Links on the left-hand side of the page. A variety of resources should be available there, including further instructions. You should also have received an email from your faculty member telling you how you will complete this course online. If you ever have any questions about a course, please email that professor immediately. If you ever have any issues with academic courses, you may reach out to the Provost, Dr. Rosemary Allen, or the Associate Dean for Student Success, Ms. Alex Lopez.
  • Who should I contact if I am having trouble accessing my classes, the portal, or Canvas?
    • For technical issues, please email ITS or call them at 502-863-4357. If you have broader questions about access, such as not having the technology you need to complete your classes, or accessibility issues due to disabilities, please contact the Associate Dean for Student Success, Ms. Alex Lopez, and she can connect you to the correct resource.
  • What academic resources are available to me remotely?
    • Ensor Learning Resource Center: Librarians will continue to monitor the library’s virtual chat service from 8 AM – 8 PM, Monday - Thursday. To access the chat, visit Furthermore, the LRC is still available to provide research assistance as needed. Patrons can take advantage of this service virtually by visiting
    • Tutoring and Writing Center: Students should request Tutoring and schedule appointments with the Writing Center in the usual way, through GConnect. Along with the usual confirmation email, you will also receive an email from your tutor or Writing Center consultant with a link to GoBoard. This is an interactive platform that will allow you to work together well. Students in Spanish can access their Spanish Lab through Canvas. 
  • When and how will advising happen?
    • Advising for the fall 2020 semester is underway, beginning on Monday, March 23. Academic advisors are working with students remotely via email and Zoom. All undergraduate students should have already received communication from their advisor last week. Students with advising questions or concerns should reach out to their academic advisor or the Associate Dean for Academic Services & Registrar, Jason Snider.
    • Registration for the fall and summer 2020 semesters began on Monday, March 23. All students have received emails about registration. Specific registration questions should be directed to the Office of the Registrar ( or 502.863.8024)
  • How do I drop a class or go Pass/Fail?
    • Drop classes: As of April 6th, students may drop a class (without a grade) through April 29th. To drop a class, please email from your GC email account. Be sure to include your ID number and the class you want to drop. This extended drop date replaces the last day to drop with a W.
    • Go Pass/Fail: Undergraduates may now appeal to change their grading to Pass/Fail for each of their classes in Spring 2020.  To make this appeal, they must follow the following process:

      1. Log in to The Portal

      2. Navigate to Academics > Academic Forms > Spring 2020 Pass/Fail Request

      3. Follow the instructions listed and complete the form.

      •   Be sure to carefully read each agreement and point of information and certify that you understand.

          You must submit a separate form for each class for which you would like to submit an appeal.

  • How will this affect my internship?
    • If you have not yet logged the 50 onsite hours needed for each hour of academic credit, see if your internship site will allow you to work remotely for the remaining hours.  If it is not possible to work offsite, consult with the faculty advisor for your internship, who can advise you whether the internship designation needs to be converted to an independent study.  Either way, you will have the opportunity to earn the hours for which you are registered.
  • When and how will final exams be completed?
    • Our expectation is that faculty will administer exams online via Canvas, email, or other appropriate electronic resources during the exam period scheduled on the academic calendar.
  • How do I return rented textbooks to the bookstore?
    • The campus store is offering free shipping return labels and is also extending the non-return period without penalty to assist with increased returns by mail. Click the COVID-19 message on the home page of the campus store website:


  • When and how will I get the rest of my things out of my room? What if I can't get everything out in that timeframe?
    • Students will sign up for a time slot during a 2-week period starting April 13.  If students are not able to come during their hall’s assigned time, we will have makeup dates and work with students based on their individual situation and needs.   • What do I do if I forgot something necessary in my room? Can I retrieve it?
  • How do I get my mail forwarded on to my home address?
    • USPS will only forward First Class Mail, and we are doing this. Unfortunately, packages cannot be forwarded through USPS.  Packages can be either "returned to sender, " or the student can pay to have it sent to another address.  If a student wishes to have it sent to another address please e-mail with a phone number for her to call and get credit card information to process for the shipping fees.
  • What resources are available to students who need mental health or pastoral care during this time?
    • Pastoral Care: Any Georgetown College student, staff or faculty member who would like to have a pastoral care conversation or just talk more generally about spiritual things is invited to email the Campus Minister, Bryan Langlands at: He would be happy to talk over email and/or to set up a time to talk by phone.
    • Health Center: Beginning Friday, March 27th, the Health Center is offering online and phone appointments for students seeking health appointments as we transition online this semester and students are away from campus. Rebecca Hogsten, Physican Assistant, will see students utilizing the platform and evaluate and treat simple illness (red eye, cough, sinus problems, urinary illness and coronavirus/flu screen). If you are interested in a health appointment, please call the Counseling and Health Center at 502-863-8201 to begin the process.  Please know that our hours during this time are 9-4 Monday-Friday. If we are already talking with another student, please leave your name and number, and we will get back with you as soon as possible.  
    • Counseling services at the Counseling and Health Center are also available for students.  We have reached out to students who were current clients prior to Spring break and offered them resources and ways to connect with us.  We are hosting multiple weekly Zoom informational sessions on a variety of topics.  If you are interested in attending the Zoom informational sessions, please reach out to, check our instagram @gcstudentwellness and/or watch your email for ongoing information. We will continue to explore ongoing ways that we can serve our students during this time. If students want to reconnect with counseling at the Counseling and Health Center, or they have not connected with us before, they can schedule a phone consult with us.   • Is GC able to offer any sort of refund for services, such as room and board, that students are unable to use currently?
    • As of April 24th, the college is sending every student a check to help fund additional costs that they have taken on as a result of the shutdown; some of this check is a partial refund of room and board as well. For the reasons shared before, the college is not able to offer a full refund, but will continue to explore every possible option to get more funds and support for our students.   • Are students still able to get paid for campus jobs?
    • Yes, students will be able to get Federal Work Study pay for all campus job hours for which they were already assigned to work. We will have more details on exactly how this will work by the end of April as we approach the next pay day for students.


  • Are campus tours still available?
    • In-person campus tours are not currently available, but admissions is offering Guided Virtual Tours of campus! To hear an admission counselor walk you around campus, please sign up for a guided virtual tour at
  • How is this affecting summer camps at Georgetown?
    • Each summer camp will be different. As of now, for official GC summer camps, PAEMS, Faithways, and Robotics Camps are still scheduled to occur, but that may change. All other GC camps are canceled for summer 2020.
