ÉLAN VITAL

Rainbow Falls, 2001
Enamel and pigments on board
22 x 22 inches

The environment inspires American artist Élan Vital’s exotic poured canvases. His images are meant to celebrate life and are the expression of creation. He uses the analogy of the process of producing gemstones into jewels to describe his work. His uses intense psychedelic liquid mediums that has been made to flow in currents of varying speed and density, reminiscent of the staining techniques used by Paul Jenkins. Vital, a former engineer, was instrumental in designing Andy Warhol’s Psychedelic Gallery and producing the light show at the first Woodstock concert before producing his own artwork.
