Tang Dynasty, 618-907 CE
Height: 13 inches
This equestrian figure was produced during the Tang Dynasty period, around the seventh and eighth century CE. During this time China’s military was undergoing great success by extending China’s borders. Horses played an important role in the military campaigns. This particular object has a well-dressed rider, probably associated with the Chinese military. The rider is seated on the standing horse with his arms extended, holding the reigns. This could also show the importance of the invention of harnesses and accoutrements.
