An American artist, Doyle Gertjejansen has been creating large-scale mixed media abstractions for over three decades. His most recent works focus on complex layers of abstract and pictorial imagery drawn from his personal history, the history of art, contemporary philosophy, and his interest in other disciplines including anthropology and science. Gertjejansen graduated with a B.S. in art from Mankato State University and an M.F.A. in painting and art history from the University of Minnesota. As the chairman of the Department of Fine Art at the University of New Orleans, Gertjejansen has continued to exhibit his work throughout the country and internationally. He has also been recognized for his talent by grants, awards and honors including a National Endowment for the Arts/Southern Arts Federation Fellowship in painting in 1996. Doyle Gertjejansen’s pantings reflect art itself and his continuing experimentation with the traditional.
