Do you have a favorite story about Georgetown College? Do you have a tale you’d like to hear or tell?

We invite you to attend the opening reception of “Georgetown Stories,” a display devoted to narratives about the college – both its factual history and personal anecdotes told by those who remember them. Prepared by Dr. Decker’s Curatorial Studies class, this exhibition features previously recorded interviews and new recordings and textual voices pulled from archival material. All of these narratives will be paired with objects from the college’s archives to provide a visual enhancement to the stories.

Previously recorded interviews were conducted by Dr. Jim Heizer in 1979 with the following alumni and friends of the college: Don and Chris Kerr Cawthorne, Sara Thomas Hambrick, Robert W. Hinton, Ira and Mary Thompson Porter, and George and Carolyn Rogers Redding. Come hear excerpts from these interviews at the exhibition.

New interviews have been recorded this fall by students in this course with: Janie Hill M. Polk ’53; Martha Hagan ’55; George Lusby ’58; Judy Apple ’65; Flash and Carol Williams ’66; Frankie Johnson ’66; Bob Mills ’67; Dave Forman ’72, and Laura Owsley ’92. Email interviews were also conducted with Eugene Enlow ’44; Shirley Bard ’53; Edward Clark ’54; and Rozanna Dalton ’75.

“Georgetown Stories” offers a glimpse into the past. Please join us on Friday, September 21 from noon until 2:00 pm in the Cochenour Gallery for the opening reception where students from the course will be on hand to answer questions about the exhibition. The reception will be complemented by a Fireside Chat at 1:00 pm Both events are free and open to the public.
