Georgetown College Art Department and Galleries have dubbed 2012 the Year of the Collector. As one of several events in this year-long celebration, the Anne Wright Wilson Fine Arts Gallery is presenting the exhibition A Passionate Pursuit: The Milward Collection. Over the past 30 years, Lexington resident John Milward has acquired a large group of artworks, often working with Greg Ladd of Cross Gate Gallery in Lexington. Milward started with sporting prints by Alfred Munnings and paintings by George Claxton, but since 1987 has focused primarily on contemporary members of the New English Art Club, which was founded in London in 1886. Among the 75 works on view are paintings, prints, and other works on paper, plus 19th-century French bronzes. Milward hopes that through exhibitions like this, someone else “might get bitten by the [collecting] bug.”
