Outside scholarships are great tools to help with college funding. Below are some web sites that offer FREE searches on outside scholarships:


Here are a couple of things we have learned along the way about outside scholarships that you should keep in mind:

  • Never pay for information about outside scholarships; it’s free from web sites such as the ones mentioned above.
  • Many outside scholarships are available for only your first year of college. Sometimes, students enter college with a significant amount of outside scholarships, only to have none of those funds after the first year. So, just be careful and plan accordingly.


Open Education Database

The Open Education Database has added 35 new scholarships exclusively for graduate students. The scholarships have varying qualifications, amounts, and deadlines. Visit the link below to explore the scholarships for graduate students.


Alberta C. Kaufman Scholarship

This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate students with a 3.0 or higher GPA who are residents of Kentucky. Applications and additional information can be found on this website:


LegalNature’s Business School Scholarship

LegalNature is pleased to introduce the LegalNature Business School Scholarship, designed to help students afford the rising cost of education and help them on the road to business school. The award is $5,000 for educational expenses and available to students in an accredited business program.

How to Apply

1. Create a video lasting no more than one minute discussing the topic.

2. Post your video to our Facebook page or your Twitter or Instagram account using the hashtag #5kBizScholarship.

3. Complete and submit the LegalNature Scholarship application by May 31, 2017.

4. Include a valid .edu email address in your application.

5. Get as many people as possible to like your video.

MedEvac Foundation International Children’s Scholarship Fund

One of the many opportunities that the MedEvac Foundation International provides is a scholarship known as the Children’s Scholarship Fund. The Children’s Scholarship Fund was developed to help provide financial assistance for higher education to individuals who’ve lost a parent in either an air medical or critical care ground transport accident. This opportunity has doubled in size to $5,000 since last year. The MedEvac Foundation International offers this opportunity to two applicants who meet these criteria and are pursuing a degree within a college, university, or vocational-technical school. Addiction Resource Essay Contest

Addiction Resource was founded in 2014 to provide a community for those recovering from addiction and to help patients find the highest quality care for a successful recovery. Our goal is to provide resources to help patients and their loved ones so that they may stay on the road to recovery, and can successfully overcome addiction for life. The essay contest will award three prizes (Grand Prize = $2,000 Second Prize = $700 Third Prize = $300) to cover tuition and education related expenses. More information about the essay contest is available at https://addictionresource.com/scholarship/ The application period opens April 21, 2017.

The MigVapor Scholarship

(Mig Vapor, creates products designed to help people reduce their dependency on tobacco, and each semester, awards $3,000 scholarships to students who help bring awareness to the dangers of smoking.)

  • The scholarship recipients are selected through an essay contest. The winning essays will be selected on the basis of how well-written, compelling, and persuasive they are.  

  • The winning candidates for the first, second and third places will receive scholarships in the amounts of $1,900, $700 and $400, respectively. Each winner of this essay contest will be awarded a check and these funds may only be used to cover the educational expenses.

  • Application Deadline: May 31st

The winning applicants will be announced to public at MigVapor.com within 30 days after the application deadline and will also be notified via email to provide their proof of enrolment.

The Joe Manfredo Scholarship

The $500 Friends of Scott County Public Library Scholarship will be awarded to a Scott County High School graduating senior who has made written application for this scholarship to assist them in securing post high school education at a recognized college, business school, vocational school, or other program. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the Board of the Friends of Scott County Public Library.

The John Keys Kentucky S.A.L. Scholarship

Applicants must meet at least one (1) of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Any honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces, without consideration for period or length of service, who is a legal resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; OR
  • Any member of the Kentucky Sons of The American Legion (any S.A.L. member who belongs to a Squadron in Kentucky), whose dues for the current membership year are paid. Eligibility requirements are detailed in this brochure.

Application Requirements:

  • All applicants must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution verified by a letter from the institution confirming the applicant’s enrollment. The applicant’s most recent grade report must also be provided. All applications must contain a true copy of one (1) of the following items:
    • The applicant’s honorable discharge certificate from the U.S. Armed Forces
    • The applicant’s DD214 form
    • The applicant’s current year S.A.L. membership card
  • Scholarship applications are accepted throughout the year and must be mailed to the following address:

Wilma Donovan Reed Scholarship

(The Wilma Donovan Reed Scholarship is funded by a Reed family endowment to Georgetown College)

  • Number of Scholarships:  1
  • Amount Awarded: $1,000 – with possibility of renewal
  • Criteria: Outstanding women leaders interested in attending Georgetown College are eligible to apply.  Selection is based on financial need, academic standing (3.0 GPA required), and recommendations from the applicant’s minister and a high school official.  Priority is given to applicant seeking a career in the health profession.

  • Amount Awarded:  Beginning at $1,000 – with possibility of renewal
  • Criteria: Outstanding women leaders interested in attending Georgetown College are eligible to apply.  Selection is based on financial need, academic standing (3.0 GPA required), and recommendations from the applicant’s minister and a high school official.

Outside Scholarships for International Students

All students, even those receiving scholarships from Georgetown College, are encouraged to apply for outside scholarships. Please note that we do not help with the application process for outside scholarships or have anything to do with the outcome of an application. You will have to contact the institutions who provide outside scholarships directly if you have any questions. Georgetown College does not have any relationship with these institutions.
