Ethereal Bodies

Event starts: Sat, 11/10/2018 - 12:00am

Works by Ashley Garner

Ashley G. Garner is a photographer and video artist living and working out of Brooklyn, NY.

Raised between Georgia and North Carolina and getting Bachelor Degrees in photography and art history from Florida International University (Miami) Garner moved to New York in 2013. Originally pursuing a career in fashion she quickly switched focuses to fine art after working for companies such as SCOPE Art Fair, Pier59 Studios, and artist Lina Iris Viktor.

Garner’s work has been described as “elegantly provocative” informed by symbolism, mythology, scientific query, and art history. Twisting them into her own timeless narrative based on conceptual themes, her work has been recognized by American Photo Magazine, The Photographic Journal, Hi-Fructose online, The Quin Hotel, and has been featured in solo and group shows.

Ethereal Bodies is a glimpse into three bodies of work that I have created in collaboration with a variety of artists from 2015 - 2018 in Brooklyn, NY. All three bodies of work share a common theme of wellness and an exploration of the mystery in the natural world. Art has always been a form of therapy for me, and as my work has continued to develop, I have begun to shift its focus into creations that can not only be beautiful to look at but also be something much more than purely aesthetic. Whether it be videos of flowers that can lower blood pressure and muscle tension by watching them, audio of specific sound vibrations that triggers your body to release oxytocin, or photos of fish and plant life taken during a session of personal therapy time; all have transcended into work that is not just something beautiful or precious, but healing. A way to help make people actually feel better emotionally, mentally, and physically, and a way to connect with the natural world around us in new ways.
