Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration

In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 21, the Georgetown and Scott County local governments, the Scott County NAACP, and Georgetown College welcome Rev. Dr. Dwight Webster as the special guest for the annual march and program.

A ‘meet and greet’ with Rev. Dr. Webster is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the College’s Cralle Student Center lounge, first level, just off College Street. It is open to the public.

The march forms outside the Student Center and begins at 4 p.m. with marchers traveling to Military Street, then to Main Street, left on Broadway to College Street, and back to the campus.

Rev. Dr. Webster, co-founder of Justice & Beyond and Pastor of Historic Beth Eden Baptist Church in Oakland, CA, will speak at the program beginning at 5 p.m. in John L. Hill Chapel. A reception follows. 

Justice & Beyond is a coalition of faith-based, labor, educational, business, political, civic, advocacy groups, and individuals to frame, analyze, and address issues critical to justice and righteousness.

No classes are scheduled that day. Some offices are closed. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and help to relay his message to future generations.
