Courses

Sample Course Schedule

The following will give you an idea of the types of courses and activities you will participate in at the GCIEP. The schedule is not exact and will change depending on your level and other factors.

As you can see, you’ll be pretty busy with classes and activities. We believe that students learn best with full immersion into the culture. That means that we want you to be a full member of our college community: play games with us, study with us, and even come stay in our homes over the holidays.

In addition to these subjects, we often run special programs on specific topics such as TOEFL preparation, business English, local history, etc. We work with each student to develop a program that meets their goals.

What makes our courses different? If you like technology (especially video!) then you will enjoy our communications course. We incorporate digital video, podcasting, and computer enhanced learning into most of our classes. Here’s just one example.

At the Great American Ballpark

Here’s how our program works:

We took a class trip to see major league baseball at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. For Reading class we read about a famous baseball player named Jackie Robinson (and watched a video about him). In Communication class we learned about baseball slang — but barely covered all of the bases! In Writing class we wrote about what Jackie Robinson’s success meant to American culture. Then we went to the ball game and enjoyed baseball, hot dogs, and the ever amusing “kiss cam.” (Don’t ask what a “kiss cam” is, you have to see it for yourself.)
