ENG 535: Shakespeare and the Common Core

How to use Shakespeare to address the Common Core Standards? That is the question … In this Summer II online Graduate Education course, we engage in a close reading of six Shakespeare plays, and we build on that foundation to explore techniques for teaching Shakespeare in high school.  Through forum discussion and writing assignments, students in this class study Shakespeare intensively; they also design assignments that explicitly address the new core standards for reading literature.*  At the end of this course they will have new strategies and activities to use in their own classrooms.
