Initial Programs

Initial graduate programs in education are designed for candidates seeking to become teachers for the first time. Coursework is delivered online, and many courses do not require you to “attend class,” even virtually, at a specific time, affording maximum flexibility.

Learning Behavior Disorders (LBD)

with a P-12 LBD certification leading to a Master of Arts in Education. This is a program with an alternative certification route available. Initial candidates in this program can:

  • work on their program while still maintaining a job outside of education, as long as they plan the time necessary to serve hours in schools prior to student teaching.
  • progress through their program while teaching in a school under a temporary provisional teaching certificate. These candidates take the “alternative certification route” through the LBD program.

Candidates in this program can maintain employment in another field (traditional route) or take the “alternative route” while employed in a school under a temporary provisional teaching certificate.

Combined LBD MSD Rank I

Behavior Disorders (LBD), Moderate to Severe Disability (MSD), and Rank I with Master of Arts in Education, P-12 LBD and P-12 MSD certification. During phase 1 in the program, when candidates are earning the P-12 LBD certification, candidates can take the alternative route and work full time as an LBD teacher under a temporary provisional certificate.

Advanced Graduate Programs

Advanced graduate programs in education are designed for early, middle, or late career teaching professionals seeking an accessible opportunity to advance their career in education. Classes for graduate programs are available online.

Master of Arts in Education/Teacher Leader (MATL)

For teachers early- to mid-career who are already certified. Candidates automatically earn a teacher leader endorsement (no Praxis required) by virtue of completing the core MATL courses and have the option to also complete a second endorsement,certification, or cognate as part of their program.


Master of Arts in Education, Rank I, School Improvement

For teachers who are mid- to later-career who are already certified and have already earned one master’s degree related to education. Candidates in this program have the option of earning the endorsements/ cognates/ certifications listed in the box on the right side of the screen.
