Cognates are course groupings designed to allow students to pursue an area of professional interest without seeking endorsement or certification in that area. Both cognates listed below may be embedded as part of the Teacher Leader Master of Arts or the Rank I School Improvement degrees. These programs may be completed on their own as well.

    • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 required (or 3.0 for the last 30 hours)

English as a Second Language Cognate

This cognate prepares classroom educators to meet the unique needs of their non-English-speaking students.

Reaching All Students Cognate

This cognate exposes educators to a variety of classroom diversity issues through courses that explore the unique needs of special education students, gifted and talented students, and English-language learners, as well as applications of educational technology.
