Additional Information

All documents for admission must be received in the Graduate Education Office by the application deadline of the semester or term the student wishes to enroll. To assure proper processing for admission, please send in all materials in a single packet (transcripts may need to be sent in separately).

Visiting Students

An applicant who is enrolled in a graduate program at another institution may enroll for courses as a visiting student. The prospective student should submit the following prior to registering for coursework:

  1. A visiting student graduate application form (please contact the Graduate Education office at grad@georgetowncollege.edu to obtain the application)
  2. A signed Professional Code of Ethics and FERPA form
  3. A written letter from the student’s current program advisor granting permission to register, including the specific course(s) that are approved.  This may be sent in the form of an email to the Graduate Education office at:  grad@georgetowncollege.edu

Visiting students are assigned an advisor and will receive an  orientation packet upon admission. Visiting students will be allowed to take only the class(es) indicated on the permission letter from the program advisor.  At the completion of the course, the visiting student will be provided a letter of completion.

Special Students

A student who desires to continue his or her education but does not intend to become a candidate for the Master’s degree may enroll as a special student. Students desiring to take graduate courses for one or more of the reasons listed below are classified as special students in the following categories:

  • Category 1 (SP1): Students taking additional courses for professional development or to renew an expired teaching certificate
  • Category 2 (SP2): Students beginning MA work while awaiting the receipt of an earned certificate
  • Category 3 (SP3): Students earning an endorsement separately from a degree
  • Category 4 (SP4): Students beginning the Teacher Leader MA-Reading Specialist program before satisfying the one-year teaching requirement
  • Category 5 (SP5): Students seeking to earn a certificate or participate in a cognate program designed by Georgetown College

For the special student category, the entrance requirements are:

  1. Completed application form
  2. One official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate work completed (degree must be posted on the official transcript). Transcript(s) should be sent directly from the college or university’s Registrar’s Office to the Associate Dean of Graduate Education, Georgetown College, 400 E. College Street, Georgetown, KY  40324.
  3. Photocopy of a valid Kentucky provisional or standard teaching certificate or Statement of Eligibility from the Kentucky EPSB
  4. Signed Professional Code of Ethics and FERPA forms
  5. Program Entry Recommendation/Evaluation completed and sent by your principal (if not currently employed, this should be completed by an educator who is familiar with the applicant’s ability to work with students)
  6. If seeking endorsement, all other criteria for admission to the endorsement sought must be met (see the Graduate Education website for more information concerning endorsements)

Students in Category 5 (SP5) take only the courses required for the selected certification or cognate as noted on the curriculum contract. Special students are assigned an advisor and will complete and sign a curriculum contract upon admission.

Undergraduate Students

Applicants who are in their last semester before graduation may be permitted to enroll as a special student provided the academic schedule does not exceed 9 semester hours. Only students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic ability and who satisfy the standards for admission will be considered. Professional requirements, including student teaching, must have been completed.

International Students

International students who meet specific program requirements and for whom Georgetown College has appropriate programs at the graduate level are invited to make application to the Graduate Education program. Such applications must be supported by satisfactory evidence of qualifications to pursue a full course of study at this institution. Applications for admission of international students are not considered complete without official transcripts showing grades and degree(s) awarded, official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores, scores on the verbal, quantitative, and analytical portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and Declaration and Certification of Finances. Georgetown’s minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL is 520 (equivalent to 190 on the computerized TOEFL or 68 on the internet-based TOEFL).

International students are required to complete their admission procedures at least 30 days prior to the term in which they expect to enter. Appropriate I-20 or DSP-66 forms will be issued after all official credentials have been received and the complete application has been reviewed and approved by the Associate Dean of Graduate Education. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requires certification that all standards for admission have been met before the I-20 form is issued.

English Language Learners (ELL)

Students who have acquired English as a Second Language are required to meet all of the admission requirements for entrance into the Graduate Education Program. In addition, they must submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores demonstrating proficiency in English.
