Glossary 

Purpose: To help demonstrate that 'The teacher uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conduct research.'

 

 

Applications -Educational instruments or jobs used to deliver data for curriculum needs such as Microsoft Office, Unix, etc.

Assistive technology- "Each public agency shall ensure that assistive technology devices or assistive technology services, or both are made available to a child with a disability if required as a part of the child's : special education related services, or supplementary aides or services.",

Database - A database manages data! The terms database describes a collection of data organized in a manner that allows access, retrieval, and use of that data.  A database system allows you to use a computer to create a database and then add, change, delete, sort, retrieve, create forms and reports using the data in the database.  

Device- a mechanical invention or contrivance for some specific purpose

Digital camera– a camera that stores or copies data to memory digitally rather than recording it to film.

Diverse- different or varied.

Documentation-Factual evidence of the necessity and usefulness of technology, hardware and software resources

Electronic Mail -A message sent from your computer to another computer once a connection has been established with an Internet Service Provider.  

Equitable-Providing equal access to all students considering ability and scheduling.

Evaluates-accesses and critiques hardware and software resources

Explores-wanders, travels, or investigates technology resources through demo disk, CD-Rom, on-line sources, and/or technology showcases.

Facilitate—to make easier or help bring about (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)

Legal- of or based on law; permitted by law

Multimedia- Different ways to get information across to others such as using graphing caculators, scanners, smartboards, palms, projectors, digital cameras, etc. Things that people can use to get info.

Multimedia presentation–conveying a message to an audience by integrating computers, text, graphics, video, and animation.

Other technologies- Many other programs offer you the ability to create your own WebPages, increase publishing varieties, and organize yourself! Graphing calculators, VCR’s, video cameras, digital cameras, scanners, and more allow you to be as creative as you want to be!

Peripherals - anything extra that is hooked into the computer from the outside.

Presentations - Well, you probably know what a presentation is but there are a variety of programs that can enhance your presentation. Presentation programs offer flexibility. You can present using overhead transparencies, slides, projected from your computer, and from the Internet. Tables, graphics, pictures, video, sound, and animation effects can help make your presentation more impressive.

Scanner– a device that can read text or illustrations printed on paper and translate them into a digital form for computer use.

Software-educational data or programs to provide and offer assistance in curriculum needs such as Star Math, Star Reading, Inspiration, etc.

Spreadsheet - allows you to enter, calculate, manipulate, and analyze data such as numbers and text. The term spreadsheet means the same as worksheet.

Technology- the processes by which we use tools and machines to increase our control and understanding of the material environment. (2) a manner of accomplishing a task especially using technical processes, methods, or knowledge (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)

Technology resources-tools to enhance curriculum needs and to showcase learning of both students and teachers

Uses-employs, treats, and actually applies knowledge of technology resources in lesson planning, obtaining technology equipment, both hardware and software, determines the ability of products based on teacher, student, and curriculum needs. 

Video camera– an analog (representations that are continuous) device that records and captures full motion images

Word Processing- creating professional looking documents such as announcements, letters, resumes, and reports. Word processing programs offer features that make it easy to revise, correct text, check spelling and grammar, and format text - all while you are typing.
