What criterion 10.7 says: |
The teacher. . . 10.7. Uses computers and other technologies such as interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and other distance learning applications to enhance professional productivity and support instruction. |
What this criterion seems to mean: |
Teachers can integrate technology into the curriculum by using all possible sources, including those sources that are not in direct contact. Teachers can increase productivity by learning about applications on their own time in their own room. This criterion seems to have been designed to make sure teachers learn that they do not have to drive 2 hours for a professional development when they click their mouse and get the same information. It also provides teachers with more information at a faster rate, which is more efficient. All of this leads to more student success.

There are many resources for teachers to go to on the web for interactive instruction, video conferencing, and distance learning. Soon the options will be endless. For interactive projects, a teacher could design a search topic with related questions that students could answer. The leader in this type of interactive instruction is WebQuest. A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The model was developed in early 1995 at San Diego State University by Bernie Dodge For distance learning at all levels, The Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Council on Postsecondary Education present the Kentucky Virtual University, High School, and Library. This a one-stop place for you to access quality online courses. Whether you seek a college degree, professional training or career development, online learning gives you the flexibility to meet your goals on your own terms -- in your own home, at your own pace and at a time that best suits your busy schedule. For web conferencing certain hardware and software is needed. A microphone is needed for audio and a web camera is needed for the video. There are several sites to visit for introductions to this awesome experience. Net Meeting is produced by Microsoft and is the leader in web conferencing. However, a few kid safe sites that have several directories of other teachers to connect with are The Global School House and Lightspan. Light span also offers some professional developement opportunities (distance learning). |
