What criterion 10.5 says:

The teacher. . .creates multimedia presentations using scanners, digital cameras, and video cameras.

What this criterion seems to mean:

A teacher who is proficient in standard 10.5 uses appropriate resources, especially multimedia projects to enhance, differentiate, and evaluate instruction.  The teacher can also create specific rubrics to judge student multimedia products.  The Teacher Technology Standards continuum can be found at http://www.kde.state.ky.us/oet/customer/standards?ky%20evaluation%20continuum.pdf

What a teacher does when demonstrating this knowledge or skill:

Teachers who meet this criterion will:

  • successfully create content based PowerPoint's, iMovie's, etc, for student learning that incorporates various forms of technology.

  • train students to use digital cameras, video cameras, scanners, and appropriate software such as Power point and I-movie to create student educational products. Teachers will also be able evaluate these products by creating technology based rubrics and scoring guides.

Ways this criterion might be assessed:

Possible teacher assessment tools or methods could include:

  • Teacher will develop a PowerPoint type presentation that includes all of the above criterion.  School Technology Coordinator, District Technology Coordinator, Technology Resource Teacher, principal, and other teachers will evaluate product for strengths and weaknesses.  The product must also be related to a classroom topic for it to be used during the school year.

  • Assessment rubrics for various multimedia presentations for teachers and students can be found at http://www.kde.state.ky.us/oet/customer/itl/ITLonline/Assessment%20Resources.asp

What are some resources  teachers might use to help gain competency in this area?

To improve your skills on this criterion, consider the following sites and online resources.

Besides using your local resources such as the STC, DTC, and TRT, there are several online resources as well.

http://www.microsoft.com/education/tutorial/online/pptHome.asp   is Microsoft's link which is a tutorial for PowerPoint.

A step by step multimedia presentation tutorial for digital cameras, scanners, video cameras, and more can be found at http://www.plu.edu/~libr/workshops/mulitmedia.

PowerPoint Links by Tracy Marks is another good resource site.  It can be found by going to http://www.geocities.com/~webwinds/classes/powerpt.htm.

For those who use iMovie, Apple's site includes lesson plans, movies, tips and techniques, and more. http://www.apple.com/education/dv

If looking for graphics to download for presentations, an endless supply can be found at http://www.diggit.com.

This resource for teachers was created by students in Dave Forman's EDU 556: Integrating Technology and Teacher Standard 10 class at Georgetown College. (May 2001)
