Founded by the Baptist Home Mission Society in 1881, Bishop
College was a historically black college in Marshall, Texas. Bishop
College later moved to Dallas, Texas in 1961 after receiving a grant
from the Hoblitzelle Foundation.
During the 1930’s and 1940’s, Bishop College became nationally known for their two-year ministerial program. Famous participants in the ministerial program included the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Unfortunately, Bishop College was forced to close its doors in 1988 and the campus is now the site of Paul Quinn College.
