About the Art Programs
The visual Art Major is designed to provide students with a broad based understanding of the history of world art, basic skills with traditional and digital media, and an opportunity to choose an area of specialization according to their career interests: traditional media (painting or sculpture); computer (digital media); or art history. Students will finish their program of study with the thesis course that includes a written component and a gallery exhibition.
Georgetown’s Art Department is unique for its encouragement of study abroad and internship opportunities. Recently, students have studied in Canada, Greece, Italy, Spain, and England, including the University of Oxford. In the Winter '07-08, our art history students completed a study abroad in London and Dublin. In spring-summer '08, one studio major spent a semester in Australia, an art history major travelled and studied in Chile and Argentina, one photography/digital student studied in Italy, and several studio and art history majors participated in a Karakuri wokshop in Japan. In '08-09 students are planning to study in Florence, Oxford, London and Dublin. These and other opportunities are available. Email Dr. Decker for more information.
