Artists are invited to submit for an outdoor group exhibition of contemporary three-dimensional artwork. Approximately seven artworks will be selected and the exhibition will be sited throughout the campus of Georgetown College from Spring 2007 until June 30, 2008.

The exhibition goal is to create an aesthetic venue for education, visitor interaction, and recognition of the arts. Media that may be involved include (but are not limited to): sculpture, multi-media, installation, landscape architecture, and architecture. A wide interpretation of the theme, “Live – Learn – Believe,” is encouraged. A panel of arts professionals will consider existing artwork and site-specific proposals for the exhibition.

The jury will be selecting artworks based on the following characteristics:

• artistic excellence

• relation to the exhibition theme/reflecting various interpretations of the theme

• appropriateness for outdoor venue

• diversity of materials and approaches

Founded in 1787, Georgetown College is a Baptist college defined by academic excellence in the liberal arts that teaches students to think, to lead, and to serve with balance and respect as demonstrated and modeled by Christian character.  The 104-acre grounds are rich with significant art and architecture. The campus is primarily residential and composed of nearly 1400 undergraduate students and more than 600 graduate students. The undergraduates come from 103 Kentucky counties, 25 states and thirteen foreign countries, selecting fields of study from 38 majors and 29 minors. The college is noted for its high acceptance rates to medical, law and graduate schools.

As an active community, the campus welcomes over 100,000 visitors each year for summer activities, prospective student visits, and athletic events. The Cincinnati Bengals Summer Training Camp will return to the Georgetown College Athletic Complex, located just east of the main campus, in 2006 for the tenth year.

For the purposes of this exhibition, the grounds have a variety of sites - wooded, open fields, and more.

Selected artists will be provided an honorarium in the amount of $1,000. There will be a print publication as well as an online exhibition maintained by the art department. Sales of the works will be encouraged and The College will retain a 20% commission on sold works. Work will remain on exhibition for twenty-two months and should be suitable for the southern climate.

Shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist and works will need to arrive at Georgetown College in the spring of 2007 (Dates to be determined in consultation with artist or artists teams). Artists should indicate in their submission materials if there are any time restrictions that conflict with the exhibition dates. 

Installation will be handled by the Gallery Director in consultation with the artist. Works will be insured when they arrive on campus where 24-hour security is provided. Participants may be contracted additionally for residencies, lectures, or demonstrations. Georgetown College intends to extend the life of the exhibition beyond the first year and is currently exploring various options including purchasing works for permanent display and a series of temporary exhibitions.

The selection process will occur in January and all submitting artists will be notified of selection outcomes in writing, preferably by email, immediately following.

Jurors are:

• Evelyn Kiefer, Assistant to the Director, The John and Mildred Putnam Sculpture Collection;

• Marisa Pascucci, Senior Curator, Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York; and

• Julien Robson, Curator, The Speed Museum, Louisville, Kentucky

Submissions need to arrive no later than December 31, 2006 and should include:

• Sculpture proposal of two to three paragraphs explaining your concept. You may also include preliminary sketches. This may consists of a slide narrative, exploring the application of the theme to the sculptures presented.

• Installation instructions (sculpture should arrive ready-to-install)

• Up to 10 slides of work - you should submit slides of artwork that you want to have considered for the exhibition.
