Programs of Distinction
Equine Scholars
The
Equine Scholars Program at Georgetown College combines a first class
liberal arts education with a comprehensive array of equine experiences. Our
goal is to give students the best possible combination of classroom theory,
equine exposure and professional enhancement to prepare them for a career in or
related to the horse industry. Students receive individual attention to help
them relate to their interests, academic strengths and career goals. Activities
include field trips, volunteer activities, internships within the horse industry
and related businesses as well as numerous networking opportunities. Students
graduate with a thoroughly impressive resume and are prepared to be capable
professionals in a field they truly love.
Global Scholars
The
Global Scholars
Program at Georgetown College makes it possible for
eligible students to obtain a first-class education at a nationally
recognized liberal arts college while engaging in global learning
opportunities customized to their area of study.
Other Special Programs
Bishop Scholars
The
Bishop Scholars Program allows select students the honor of carrying on the
tradition of Bishop alumni and keeping the legacy of Bishop College alive.
Brown Scholars
The Brown Scholar Leadership Recognition Program was created in 1996 at Georgetown College through a grant from the Louisville-based James Graham Brown Foundation to provide enriching learning opportunities for Brown scholarship recipients. The Leadership Recognition Program's focal points are scholarship and leadership with an "expand-your-horizons" mentality.
Christian Leaders
The Meetinghouse
program for Christian Leaders Scholarship students provides four years of
activities, retreats, academic courses and contacts to encourage the
"theological exploration of vocation." Vocation is the work and life we choose
following God's call. Discerning vocation is a life long adventure, and the
program for CLS students is intended to encourage, motivate, and prepare
students for this adventure.
First Tee Scholars
The
First Tee is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation. Its focus is on giving
young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values
like honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through golf and character education.
Georgetown College is the first college in America to provide scholarships to
young people who completed The First Tee Program.
The First Tee Scholars at Georgetown College combine the wonderful life lessons they’ve gleaned from the game of golf with leadership and ethics found throughout the school’s curriculum. Before acceptance, the students had to attend one of The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academies, attained a grade point average of 3.0 and participated in community or civic activities in high school.
Project Compassion
Five Georgetown College students visited Guatemala for eight days as a part of a film project documenting chronic malnutrition. The experiences of these five students promptly led to the formation of Project Compassion. Project Compassion has worked closely with the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the Friends of the WFP, the state-wide community, and the Georgetown College campus in order to improve harsh conditions in four needful Guatemalan schools that are the result of malnutrition.
