Campus Overview

Who We Are

With nearly two centuries of tradition behind us, Georgetown College is a liberal arts college committed to academic excellence in a Christian environment.

We appreciate the quaint streets and small-town vibe of our “home away from home.” But don’t let the town’s slower pace fool you: when those big-city lights call, our campus is within easy driving distance of Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati.

Getting to know people is easy at Georgetown: the campus is primarily residential, so the likelihood of forming friendships with the girls on your floor or the guys across the hall is quite good.

As Dr. William Crouch, our college president, is fond of saying at freshman orientation, “Take a look at the people in the room across from you and two rooms down from you on either side. Chances are good that at least one of those people will eventually be in your wedding.” These are the kind of friendships that we make here at Georgetown College: the kind that last. And with a small student body, composed of 1,365 undergraduate students and 503 graduate students, there’s no need to fear getting lost in the shuffle.

We may be a close-knit campus, but that doesn’t mean that we’re all cast from the same mold. Our undergraduates come from 88 Kentucky counties, 23 states and 10 foreign countries, selecting fields of study from 43 majors and 32 minors. But we all have one thing in common: a love for our campus community.

Our Academics

We’re a community founded on scholarship: Georgetown College has been repeatedly honored for our academic excellence. The college continues to attract award-winning faculty and students.

Our students don’t just succeed in our classrooms: we’re also noted for our high acceptance rates to medical, law and graduate schools. And if you’ve long dreamed of living abroad post-graduation, Georgetown just may be the place for you. Since 1989, our graduating classes have yielded 18 Fulbright Scholars, an achievement that has designated us a “Top Producer of Fulbright Award Recipients.”

Involvement Opportunities

There’s always something to do on our campus, which boasts over over 100 opportunities for student involvement. New Tigers can select from a multitude of extracurricular options, including:

  • the Student Government Association,
  • Maskrafters (drama/theatre troupe),
  • The Georgetonian (student newspaper),
  • Fighting Tiger Grrr…Pep Band,
  • ROTC
  • Campus Ministries,
  • four national sororities,
  • four national fraternities,
  • intramural athletics, and
  • 14 intercollegiate athletic teams.

Georgetown also offers a plethora of special programs available to students during their time on campus. We even have programs that you can’t find anywhere but Georgetown College:

Students with wanderlust can become globetrotters, thanks to our partnership with Regent’s Park College at Oxford University, as well as many other study abroad opportunities. Those interested in sticking closer to home can be just as academically challenged through participation in our recently revamped Honors Program.

With a diverse range of activities and leadership opportunities to keep students busy on campus, there is truly a lid for every pot at Georgetown!

Our Facilities

Nestled in the heart of central Kentucky, Georgetown College is the kind of campus intended to bring people together.

Most of our upperclassmen live in the “Quad,” a group of thirteen residential buildings on South Campus designed to promote community, while freshmen men and women get to know their classmates better while living in Anderson and Knight Hall, respectively.

When you’re ready to trade dorm life for apartment dwelling, select upperclassmen make the move to East Campus. There, students live in the same four-bedroom apartments that house the Cincinnati Bengals during their annual summer training camp at our very own Toyota Stadium.

Of course, there’s more to a college than where you lay your head at night and the rest of our campus is also designed to be student-friendly. Our REC center boasts a state of the art workout room, two basketball courts, and a lounge area with billiards, ping-pong, and a big-screen TV.

Anna Ashcraft Ensor Learning Resource CenterThe Anna Ashcraft Ensor Learning Resource Center (affectionately known around here as the LRC) offers state-of-the-art academic resources without the stuffy feel of a traditional library. While there is plenty of space for individual reflection in our “quiet study areas,” social learners will be able to collaborate with other students in leather chairs by the fireplace in the Neal Fireside Room, in one of our seven study rooms designed for group work, or in the Mulberry Café, our in-library coffee shop that proudly brews Starbucks coffee and boasts some of the best chocolate chip cookies around!

The Lee E. Cralle Student Center is the campus hub. This single building houses:

  • Lee E. Cralle Student Centerthe Caf (dining hall),
  • the Grille,
  • the C-Store (convenience store),
  • the Store (student bookstore),
  • Campus Mail, and
  • Student Life offices.

Don’t expect to visit without running into someone you know! At Georgetown College, we’ve never met a stranger. And as befits a college rooted in the Baptist tradition, the John L. Hill Chapel provides a house of prayer for all people as the home of our campus ministries and center of our worship life.

Distinctions

We don’t like to brag, but Georgetown College has been nationally recognized in several important publications. Take a look at some of the accolades we’ve received in recent years:

  • a U.S. News & World Report’s top national liberal arts college
  • Peterson’s Competitive Colleges
  • Barron’s Best Buys in College Education
  • One of the Best Southeastern Colleges by The Princeton Review
  • America's Colleges of Distinction since 2005 (one of only three in Kentucky!)

While these distinctions are certainly flattering, at Georgetown, we realize that seeing is believing, and we’d love the opportunity to show you what our community is really about.
