Types of Assistance Available

Academic Scholarships

A student is eligible for only one of the following Academic Scholarships and will be awarded the most advantageous of the scholarships based on qualifications.

Governor's Scholar & Governor's School for the Arts Scholarship

Amount: $12,000
Eligibility: Apply for admission by February 1, with appropriate ACT/GPA may qualify for Trustee instead

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Amount: $5,000
Eligibility: For PKT Community College Grads, Apply by February 1

Presidential Scholarship

Amount: $2,000 and up
Eligibility: Apply for admission by February 1

Trustee Scholarship

Amount: From $5,000 up to full tuition, room and board
Eligibility: Apply for admission by February 1

Valedictorian Scholarship

Amount: $12,000
Eligibility: Apply for admission by February 1; may qualify for Trustee instead

Parks Scholarship

Amount: Full tuition, room, and board
Eligibility: To qualify, a student must have a minimum 3.75 high school GPA and have scored 30 or higher on the ACT exam, submit a Parks Baptist Scholarship application as well as Georgetown’s application for admission, write an essay, and, possibly, come to campus for an in-person interview. Apply by February 1.

Oxford Honors Scholarship

Amount: Trustee Scholarship ($5,000 up to full tuition, room and board) plus a $500 yearly stipend for completion of Honors Program and Oxford Programs elements. Recipients are eligible for an additional scholarship to cover all tuition costs should they decide to pursue study at Oxford in the junior or senior year.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

Amount: $200 to $1,000

Institutional Grants and Endowed Scholarships

Eligibility: File FAFSA; based on eligibility

Kentucky College Access Program (CAP) Grant

Amount: $1,900 award
Eligibility: File FAFSA by March 15; Kentucky resident and attend a Kentucky college or university; eligibility determined by the state

Kentucky Teacher Scholarship

Amount: $1,250 - $5,000

Kentucky Tuition Grant

Amount: Up to $2,900
Eligibility: File FAFSA by March 15; must be Kentucky resident and attend a private Kentucky college; eligibility determined by the state

Performance Scholarships (Music, Art and Theatre)

Scott County Grant

Amount: $1,000 - $2,000
Eligibility: Grad from Scott Co. HS (KY), award is $1000 if living off campus

Virginia Covington Grant

Work Study

Federal Work Study

Amount: Up to $1,200
Eligibility: File FAFSA; based on eligibility

Institutional Work Program

Amount: No limits
Eligibility: No requirements

 

Federal Loans Available

Federal Perkins Loan (5% interest rate)

Amount: up to $4,000
Eligibility: File FAFSA; based on eligibility

Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan (6.8% interest rate)

Amount: Up to $3,500 for freshman, $4,500 for sophomore, $5,500 as a junior and senior
Eligibility: File FAFSA

Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan (6.8% interest rate)

Amount: Up to $3,500 as a freshman, $4,500 as a sophomore and $5,500 as a junior and senior; must decide whether to defer interest payments
Eligibility: File FAFSA

Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (8.5% interest rate)

Amount: Cost of education minus the amount of financial assistance the student is receiving

Outside Scholarships

Outside scholarships are great tools to help with college funding. Below are some web sites that offer FREE scholarship searches:

Here are a couple of things we have learned along the way about outside scholarships that you should keep in mind:

  • Never pay for scholarship information; it’s free from web sites such as the ones mentioned above.
     
  • Many outside scholarships are available for only your first year of college. Sometimes, students enter college with a significant amount of outside scholarships, only to have none of those funds after the first year. So, just be careful and plan accordingly.
