Outside scholarships are great tools to help with college funding. Below are some web sites that offer FREE scholarship searches:
Here are a couple of things we have learned along the way about outside scholarships that you should keep in mind:
- Never pay for scholarship information; it’s free from web sites such as the ones mentioned above.
- Many outside scholarships are available for only your first year of college. Sometimes, students enter college with a significant amount of outside scholarships, only to have none of those funds after the first year. So, just be careful and plan accordingly.
AES Engineers
- Applicants are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.
- How to Apply
- Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions that are posted on our site.
- Amount of award: $500.00

Bluegrass Compensation Association
Bluegrass Compensation Association is an organization of human resources professionals committed to the advancement of knowledge in the areas of compensation, benefits and other rewards. We encourage students to pursue a career in the human resources profession by awarding a scholarship for study in the field.
One $500 Allen D. Engle Human Resources scholarship will be awarded in December to a chosen student. Application deadline is November 5, 2010.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must have at least sophomore standing with a declared major, or be a graduate student
- Must be majoring in human resources management, personnel administration/development or a related major or currently employed in human resources
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Must provide two letters of recommendation from instructors in your core curriculum

John Gyles Education Awards
- The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the United States. They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990.
- Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are available to both male and female students in all areas of post secondary study. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered in the selection process.
- Selected students will receive up to $3,000.
- The 2010 deadline for mailing applications is May 1.

The John Keys Kentucky S.A.L. Scholarship
Applicants must meet at least one (1) of the following eligibility requirements:
- Any honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces, without consideration for period or length of service, who is a legal resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; OR
- Any member of the Kentucky Sons of The American Legion (any S.A.L. member who belongs to a Squadron in Kentucky), whose dues for the current membership year are paid. Eligibility requirements are detailed in this brochure.
Application Requirements:
- All applicants must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution verified by a letter from the institution confirming the applicant’s enrollment. The applicant’s most recent grade report must also be provided. All applications must contain a true copy of one (1) of the following items:
- The applicant’s honorable discharge certificate from the U.S. Armed Forces
- The applicant’s DD214 form
- The applicant’s current year S.A.L. membership card
- Scholarship applications are accepted throughout the year and must be mailed to the following address:

Talbots Scholarship Foundation
In keeping with its long-standing tradition of helping women succeed, the Talbots Charitable Foundation is proud to present the 2012 Talbots Scholarship Foundation and the Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award for perseverance and ingenuity, which is presented in memory of the founder of Talbots. This program empowers women to enrich themselves through learning and achieve a college education later in life.
Completely re-imagined, the Talbots Scholarship Foundation will award $200,000 in college scholarships for the 2012 academic year, including seventeen (17) $10,000 scholarships and one (1) $30,000 scholarship to an extraordinary finalist demonstrating courage, conviction and an insatiable entrepreneurial spirit.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the 2012 Talbots Scholarship Foundation must:
- Be women currently residing in the United States or Canada;
- Be women who have earned a high school diploma or their GED on or before September 2001;
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full- or part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2- or 4- year college, or university
- Be attending the full 2012-13 academic year and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2014; and
- Have at least two semesters (24 credit hours or more) remaining to complete an undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2012 fall academic term.
Women’s Association of Georgetown College
- Amount Awarded: $1,000
- Criteria: You must be a female incoming student at Georgetown College, full-time with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better and have demonstrated your leadership abilities in your school or community.

Women Leading Kentucky
- Amount Awarded: $1000 – $1500
- Criteria: You must be a female undergraduate student (freshman, sophomore or junior) enrolled full time at a Kentucky college/university, have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better, and have demonstrated your leadership abilities on campus and/or in your communities. Approximately eight (8) students will be selected for scholarships and all will be informed of their selection in mid-April 2012. Scholarship winners will be required to attend reception in May to receive award. Exact date TBA.

- Step 2: Submit your scholarship application, copy of your transcript and an essay of not more than 300 words about why you deserve this leadership scholarship, no later than February 1, 2012. Outside Scholarships for International Students
All students, even those receiving scholarships from Georgetown College, are encouraged to apply for outside scholarships. Please note that we do not help with the application process or have anything to do with the outcome of an application. You will have to contact the scholarship institutions directly if you have any questions. Georgetown College does not have any relationship with these institutions.
