Through a variety of service learning projects, the Center for Civic Engagement at Georgetown College offers students opportunities to engage with organizations in local communities all while earning course credit. Our students have worked with a variety of organizations, from local elementary and middle schools, to conservation groups, to businesses fighting human trafficking. These civic engagement activities provide both rewarding, service-based experiences, as well as valuable networking and resume building opportunities, such as internships.
Service learning allows students to apply what they are learning in that particular class to real-world situations, essentially giving them a little bit of “practice” for their endeavors after college. It provides an opportunity for students to cultivate skills in leadership and collaboration, for them to put theory into action.
