Filmmaking

Students at Georgetown College are no strangers to the world of film. Here students have the opportunity to take classes in Screenwriting, Acting for the Camera and Independent Filmmaking, which is only just the beginning. The theories from those classes are put to the test as students take on large responsibilities for Department-produced shorts and feature length films.

Currently, the Department’s first feature-length film, Surviving Guthrie, is in post-production.

Past short films include Doc Doc—a scathing look at the world of tenured academics and their egos, written and directed by Professor George McGee—and the 2005 Insomniac Film Festival entry Cinemessiah, winner of three awards:

  • Best Production Design—Maskrafters/Dr. Ed Smith
  • Best Actor—Nathan Bush
  • Best Use of Assigned Character—Maskrafters/Dr. Ed Smith
