Advising Process The LBD Program is
committed to working closely with candidates, with
an advisor as a mentor and primary contact to
support the candidate’s progress and success
throughout the program
During Admissions Process. During the
process of application to the LBD Program,
prospective candidates work through the LBD Program
Director for submission and review of the
application.
Advisor Assignment. Once the applicant is
approved for admission, the first orientation and
advising session is completed as part of Checkpoint
1: Program Admission. Once admitted to the program,
candidates are assigned an LBD program advisor.
Candidate Responsibilities. Contacts with
advisors may take the form of email, telephone, or
face-to-face meetings. All questions related to the
LBD Program should be referred to the advisor.
Candidates are responsible for:
- contacting the advisor prior to registration
to discuss and confirm course selection;
- bringing program questions, concerns or
issues to the attention of the advisor as the
initial contact in the LBD Program;
- responding to advisor communications;
- initiating Praxis preparation through
attendance at a Praxis preparation session prior
to taking the Praxis; and
- working with the advisor to resolve any
Disposition Records of Concern or Major Program
Assessment Plans.
Role of Advisors. Individual advisors
maintain the records on each advisee, which are
stored in the LBD Program Office. Advisors also have
electronic access to advisee academic records
maintained in PAWS, the Georgetown College Personal
Access Web Services. The advisor is responsible for:
- communicating with the candidate;
- advising on courses;
- monitoring the candidate’s checkpoint status
and GPA;
- helping the candidate prepare for Praxis;
- assisting the candidate with any
certification paperwork for EPSB (e.g., TC-TP
applications);

program changes that impact the candidate;

Dispositions Record of Concern;
- monitoring any Major Assessment Remediation
Plans;
- mentoring the candidate; and
- generally supporting the candidate’s success
at Georgetown.
