Semester Offerings

The Graduate Academic Calendar with dates for each semester and the current semester course information are available on the Graduate Education website under “General Information” on the left menu.

http://www.georgetowncollege.edu/Departments/education/grad.htm

There are at least four graduate online semesters each academic year:

  • Fall and Spring are 10-weeks each;

  • Winter Intercession is 4-weeks when offered (determined annually).

All special education (ECE) and general education (EDU) courses that are part of the LBD Program are offered each semester, except as follows:

  • The practicum courses (ECE 575A-B and ECE 576) are only offered in fall and spring.
  • Only two courses are offered in a 4-week Winter Intercession:
    • ECE 504 Collaboration and Advocacy (2 hr) and
    • EDU 546 Classroom Applications of Technology (2 hr).

Registration Policies

The following are graduate education policies addressed in the Graduate Student Handbook, which should be reviewed for details. You can find the Graduate Student Handbook in the "Graduate" folder at the link below:

http://www.georgetowncollege.edu/Departments/education/docs_forms.htm

  • Graduate candidates may take up to two (2) graduate courses per semester. Enrollment in two graduate courses is considered full-time graduate status at Georgetown.
    • Not all courses are three-credit courses; some are two-credit or six-credit courses. Therefore, within the limit of two courses per semester, candidates may take from four to nine hours in a given semester.
  • Candidates enrolling in a course without having met the course or checkpoint prerequisites will be administratively dropped from the course.
  • To complete the registration process, candidates must pay for the course(s) within the timelines set by the Business Office.

  • Candidates should check the Business Office for deadlines for dropping classes and any fees involved.
    http://spider.georgetowncollege.edu/boff/grads1.htm
  • Each year, dates are set in the Graduate Academic Calendar after which any dropped course is reported as Withdraw-Passing or Withdraw-Failing, which will appear on the transcript.
  • Candidates who have not logged into an online course within a week of the beginning of the semester, or who fail to participate after two weeks, may be administratively dropped from the course.

Registration Procedures

For each semester, there is a three-day registration window. Priorities are set for registration. LBD registration is often reserved for the first day. For spring, the first registration day is reserved as priority for those completing a program. Candidates are encouraged to register as soon as their registration window is open and may register in one of two ways:

Prior to the registration window, candidates are expected to

Grades

Candidates access their grades through the PAWS (Personal Access Web Service).
https://paws.georgetowncollege.edu/

All Georgetown graduate courses use the following grading scale:

A = 93-100%
B = 85-92%
C = 75-84%
D = 65-74%
F = < 64%

Graduate candidates must maintain a GPA average of 3.0 throughout the program. A grade of C in any graduate course is of concern and may result in academic probation, according to the Graduate Student Handbook. D’s and F’s must be repeated.

Incompletes

As indicated in the Graduate Student Handbook, candidates should expect to complete course requirements within the semester. However, if a candidate experiences illness or other legitimate reason why coursework cannot be completed within the course timelines:
  • The candidate must contact the instructor prior to the end of the semester to request (in writing) an Incomplete.
  • If the instructor accepts the reason for an extended timeline, then the instructor will complete a written agreement for an incomplete outlining the completion expectations and due date.
  • The LBD Program Director and the candidate’s advisor will be notified of the agreement for the incomplete at time of the submission of the instructor’s grades for the course, in order to monitor completion.
  • The candidate must complete the Incomplete by the Agreement date, or the Incomplete will be automatically changed to an “F”.

Course Evaluations

In order for Georgetown to continuously improve the LBD coursework, candidates are expected to complete an online evaluation at the end of each course. Candidates access the form through PAWS. https://paws.georgetowncollege.edu/

Right before the end of the course, Georgetown online instructors receive ongoing lists of names of students who have completed the course evaluation. In this way, instructors know whether an evaluation has been submitted and may assign points or otherwise require completion.

However -- Instructors never receive individual responses. After grades are submitted, they receive aggregate information for the class as a whole.

Academic Honesty and Ethics

All graduate courses adhere to the Georgetown College Honors System as outlined in the Graduate Student Handbook. The following are considered infractions to the Honors System:
  • cheating,
  • plagiarism,
  • lying,
  • stealing, and
  • double assignments (using one assignment to fulfill requirements for two different courses).

Any student found in violation of the Honors System will be subject to sanctions as outlined in the Handbook, which may include expulsion from the program

All LBD candidates are expected to uphold the Kentucky Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnelas well as the CEC Code of Ethics for Educators of Persons with Exceptionalities.
