Center for Culturally Relevant Pedagogy |
The Center for Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CCRP)
was established in 2007 with a grant from the US
Department of Education Office of English
Language Acquisition. The purpose of the CCRP is
to promote equity education by providing
information on research and best practices in
culturally responsive teaching. CCRP staff has
worked in partnership with Kentucky’s
Collaborative Center for Literacy Development (CCLD)
to develop an instrument for evaluating
culturally responsive instruction in classrooms.
The Culturally Responsive Instruction
Observation Protocol (CRIOP) is currently being
field-tested in Kentucky Schools.
The CCRP is also involved in a grant project
that is designed to develop teachers who will
serve as leaders in their schools and districts
in implementing best practices for English
Language Learners and other underrepresented
student populations. This professional
development project has involved a number of
Saturday sessions, which culminated in a
week-long institute in June. Cohort 1
participants will continue their professional
development during year two of the grant
project, and we will be adding a second cohort
group in the fall of 2008. These teacher leaders
will be presenting at various state and national
conferences in 2008-09 and are available to
provide professional development to local school
districts. The CCRP will also initiate a video
library in the spring of 2009 that will feature
video clips of the various instructional
features that are measured in the CRIOP.
