Outside Scholarships and Aid

Outside scholarships are great tools to help with college funding. Below are some web sites that offer FREE scholarship searches:

Here are a couple of things we have learned along the way about outside scholarships that you should keep in mind:

  • Never pay for scholarship information; it’s free from web sites such as the ones mentioned above.
  • Many outside scholarships are available for only your first year of college. Sometimes, students enter college with a significant amount of outside scholarships, only to have none of those funds after the first year. So, just be careful and plan accordingly.

AES Engineers

  • Applicants are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.
  • How to Apply
    • Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions that are posted on our site.
  • Amount of award: $500.00
  • Deadline for entry: October 8, 2010

Bluegrass Compensation Association

Bluegrass Compensation Association is an organization of human resources professionals committed to the advancement of knowledge in the areas of compensation, benefits and other rewards. We encourage students to pursue a career in the human resources profession by awarding a scholarship for study in the field.

One $500 Allen D. Engle Human Resources scholarship will be awarded in December to a chosen student. Application deadline is December 4.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must have at least sophomore standing with a declared major, or be a graduate student
  • Must be majoring in human resources management, personnel administration/development or a related major or currently employed in human resources
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Must provide two letters of recommendation from instructors in your core curriculum

John Gyles Education Awards

  • The John Gyles Education Awards are available each year to students in both Canada and the United States. They are the result of a private, benevolent endeavor established in 1990.
  • Full Canadian or American citizenship is a requirement. Awards are available to both male and female students in all areas of post secondary study. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Criteria other than strictly academic ability and financial need are considered in the selection process.
  • Selected students will receive up to $3,000.
  • The 2010 deadline for mailing applications is May 1.

Women's Association

  • Amount Awarded:  $1,000
  • Criteria:  You must be a female sophomore or junior enrolled FT at a Kentucky college/university, have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better, and have demonstrated your leadership abilities on campus and/or in your communities.
